So, I have now had my Magic Jack for 6 months and I have to say that I am very impressed with this little gadget. Everything that the website has said about this gadget has been the truth. So, what can you do with this Magic Jack?
1. Get rid of your expensive phone bill! As long as you have fast enough Internet access, the Magic Jack will work. I was in DR Congo, Africa and we were using satellite for Internet, when it was up. The speed was not fast at all, maybe around 128k or so. The Magic Jack worked! Yes, in the middle of no where in Africa! So, if you can get out of your home phone bill, do it and get one of these. Again, it cost me $50 for the first YEAR and then $20 dollars every YEAR after. Yes, YEAR…not month.
2. If you travel outside of the U.S., this is for you! I bought a second Magic Jack and left it in Africa so they could call back to the U.S. It does not matter where you are in the world, you can call back to the US, and I believe Canada, for that small yearly price. Oh, and you do have to have internet access. I you know of a missionary, this would be something so awesome to give to them.
I have a cousin that her and her husband are in Italy. He is in the Navy and is stationed over there. I told my aunt about the Magic Jack, so she bought one for them. They will not need to get phone service while they are in Italy. As long as they have internet access, they will be able to use this and call back home.
I also have a buddy of mine that is teaching a class for my company over in Germany. He bought a Magic Jack so I told him he needed to bring it with him to Germany and use it. He told me that AT&T cell phone service for him over in Germany would be .99 cents a minute. WOW! So he brought his Magic Jack and is making free calls back home.
My daughter is getting to that age where she likes to get on the phone, and stay on it. Instead of getting an additional phone line from TWC, I am going to get another Magic Jack and connect it to her computer. Then she will have her own phone and it will not tie up the home phone. Plus, it will save me a lot of money each month.
With all that said, I do not work for Magic Jack. I have never met Magic, or Jack. I got it because I was tired of paying my $30 – $40 dollar a month phone bill. I saw the commercial and thought, you know what, for $50 dollars, why not try it. I did and I have been so impressed. The I got a second one for the DR Congo, Africa mission trip I went on and that was truley a gift from God.
So, if you have any questions about this, post a comment and I will answer your question. I get so many “hits” on this blog site every day from people that are searching for Magic Jack, and if it really work. YES, it does, and again, if you have questions, post a comment and I will answer them.
OK – so after talking to you about it for the last 6 months, I decided to bite the bullet and order one. We’ll see what happens soon. Thanks for the tip Joe!
So I just bought a majic jack and I absolutely love it. I don’t have any complaints yet. I’m wondering if it would work in Iraq??? My husband is military and is stationed near Baghdad, they use satellite internet out there, we’ve become exhausted with the amount of time it takes for him to wait in line just to make a phone call, not to mention the amount of calling cards we go through. We haven’t seen anyone use the majic jacks out there yet, so I’m wondering if you have heard of anything. Please let me know, it would be awesome to actually have a phone number for my husband where we could easily call each other….
thank you
It does not matter where you are at in the world, as long as you get Internet access, the Magic Jack should work. Now, with that said, I have been on some military bases for work and my Magic Jack didn’t work. The reason being is that the military is blocking the “ports” that the Magic Jack works on. So keep that in mind. I was in the middle of Africa and was making calls back home. This little device is awesome!
Got this Magic Jack for almost 9 months. Actually, a friend of mine recommended vonage to me as I was paying 200-300 bucks a month for my long distance in the Philippines. Well, so I ordered vonage. I was going to send it in the Philippines the next day. The night before that day, I watched tv till midnight. Saw this tv commercial on tv. Woww! It’s way so much better than vonage. Went to their website and ordered one. Shipped back my vonage which I paid about 40 dollars out of my own pocket. After a week i got my device and sent it to my parents. To make the story short, Magic Jack really works. There is no catch. What you see in their website is really what you get. Now, my kids talks to my parents every day. No more long distance phone bills. Now I am getting one for my brother in Dubai. I just wished that they advertise this product more often. It will help a lot of people to save money.
Do you know if the magcic jack will work with satellite internet. The one I was planning on getting is wildblue with 512kbps downliad and 128 kbps upload. The other plan is 1m of download and 200 kbps upload.
Sheri,
When I was in Africa, they had satellite internet. The speed was a little bit over 128kpbs. My magicjack worked just fine. This quote is from MagicJack’s website: “Yes. magicJack requires approximately 80 kbps of bandwidth.” Now, they also say that they don’t recommend it with satellite internet because it is not fast enough. However, if your speed is 512kbps down and 128kbps up, and magicjack only need 80kbps…that speed should be more than enough. Now, I am going off of experience here, the satellite internet I had in Africa was very slow, but fast enough for the magicjack to work. When it comes down to it, $60 for 5 years of phone service…why not try it. If it doesn’t work, put it on Craigslist or sell it to someone that has better internet. Good luck.
can some body tell me if the phone jack in italy is the same as in the u.s.a.?I wont to send one magic jack to my sister .
Loretta,
I don’t know if the phone jacks are the same, I don’t think they are but, I have a cousin that is in Italy because her husband is stationed there. My Aunt sent her a MagicJack and a phone. For the most part, any US phone with an RJ11 connector should work with this. I have a 5.8GHz phone system with about 7 satellite phones throughout my house and it works great. I also have a $4 phone that I got from Wal-Mart that I sometimes use. I sent a MagicJack and several of these $4 phones from Wal-Mart to a missionary in Mulungwishi, DR Congo, Africa and that is what they use. I hope this helps.

Gr,
I have no idea. You will have to get in touch with Magic Jack and ask them.
Hey,
I bought Magic Jack while I was in the US last month. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work in Dubai, U.A.E. It keeps saying “No network connection” Error 9. It just doesn’t seem to get connected.
I saw something about a Hotspot shield on the Internet but there are mixed reviews about it.
Do you have any idea how I can make it work here?
Thanks!
