Hey,

I bought Magic Jack while I was in the US last month. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work in Dubai, U.A.E. It keeps saying “No network connection” Error 9. It just doesn’t seem to get connected.

I saw something about a Hotspot shield on the Internet but there are mixed reviews about it.

Do you have any idea how I can make it work here?

hi, i am in Dubai now i heard someone using the magic jack in usa and because he knows im calling my family for long distance he advice me to have the magic jack but im not user if the magic jack is block here in dubai.

I don’t know if the phone jacks are the same, I don’t think they are but, I have a cousin that is in Italy because her husband is stationed there. My Aunt sent her a MagicJack and a phone. For the most part, any US phone with an RJ11 connector should work with this. I have a 5.8GHz phone system with about 7 satellite phones throughout my house and it works great. I also have a $4 phone that I got from Wal-Mart that I sometimes use. I sent a MagicJack and several of these $4 phones from Wal-Mart to a missionary in Mulungwishi, DR Congo, Africa and that is what they use. I hope this helps.

When I was in Africa, they had satellite internet. The speed was a little bit over 128kpbs. My magicjack worked just fine. This quote is from MagicJack’s website: “Yes. magicJack requires approximately 80 kbps of bandwidth.” Now, they also say that they don’t recommend it with satellite internet because it is not fast enough. However, if your speed is 512kbps down and 128kbps up, and magicjack only need 80kbps…that speed should be more than enough. Now, I am going off of experience here, the satellite internet I had in Africa was very slow, but fast enough for the magicjack to work. When it comes down to it, $60 for 5 years of phone service…why not try it. If it doesn’t work, put it on Craigslist or sell it to someone that has better internet. Good luck.

Do you know if the magcic jack will work with satellite internet. The one I was planning on getting is wildblue with 512kbps downliad and 128 kbps upload. The other plan is 1m of download and 200 kbps upload.
