Ralph Meeks aka “GG Pa”

January 9th at around 1:30pm, a man of God past away and went to see his Creator.  In his passing, he was surrounded by loved ones.  I just only wished I could have been there.  However, we did get to see his over Christmas.  This past Christmas had to of been the best Christmas ever!  The kids got to meet two new cousins and made new friends.  Melanie and I got to hang out with family that we had not seen in quite some time.  But most of all, we all got to see GG Pa and we got to shower him with lots of hugs and kisses.  Oh, here is a picture of GG Pa that I took over Christmas.

From Christmas 2008

The most memorable event that we did over Christmas was the family took Communion together.  The pastor from GG Pa’s church came over to the house on Christmas Eve and we took Communion.  As I was sitting there, crying of course, I could only think that this was going to be the last time GG Pa was going to take Communion, and I was there sharing this with him.  How awesome is that!  But you know what, even though it was his last time to take Communion, he is right there with the Lord, praising Him, worshiping Him…WOW!  After the pastor left, we gave Granny her birthday presents.  Her birthday is on Christmas Eve.  As I watched her open the card from GG Pa, of course she was crying which made everyone else cry, I had my camera and took this picture.

Pretty awesome!  They have been married of over 50 years…and look at this picture…again…AWESOME!  Here are more pictures that I took of the family over Christmas.

Let me tell you something about Granny and GG Pa, I moved in with my dad when I was 9 years old.  The whole entire Meeks family, my step-mom’s family, took me in and treated me like I was their own.  I have very good memories of being at Granny and GG Pa’s house.  Even better memories of them taking Jennifer, my sister, and me to Bonita Lake camping and fishing.  GG Pa loved to fish, we both do.  One really awesome memory that I have of them is when my daughter, Britney, was born, they drove through the night from Roswell to Lubbock so they could be there for me and Melanie when Britney was born.  What a sacrifice!  They didn’t have to do that, but they did.  And you know what, Britney knows about that and she thinks that it was so awesome that they did that…for her.

GG Pa, you led a good life.  You had one heck of a wife.  I hope you know that you have touched many lives.  You have shown many people what a Christian man looks like.  I will miss you.  Thank you for serving our country as a Marine, thank you for taking me fishing, thank you for putting up with my non-sense, thank you for loving my family and me.

Israel Kamakawiwo’ole – Somewhere Over the Rainbow

This song, and this version, has to be my favorite.  It is by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole from the album Facing Future.  Song is called Somewhere Over the Rainbow.  I hope you enjoy it.  Just click the album cover on the right hand side.

Christmas With the Family

Christmas was really awesome!  We got to spend it with my side of the family this year.  We went to Grandma and Grandpa’s house in Roswell, NM, and yes, I did see a few aliens!  The best moment of the whole trip was the whole family took communion together.  Grandpa is really sick so the pastor of his church came by and we all took communion.  Here is a family photo:
