Microsoft Ads created on a Mac….AWESOME!!!

While browsing the wonderful Internet I found quite a few websites that are stating that our good friends at Microsoft used Apple computers to edit and publish their new ads that you are seeing on TV.  You know, the “I’m a PC” ads.  Here is a link to one article that I found.  Roughly Drafted.com

How cool is that?!?!  Microsoft using Apple computers to create ads against Apple Computers….hmmmmm.  Oh, and by the way, what was up with the Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates commercials?  What a waste of money and resources.  Looks like Jerry is laughing all the way to the bank.

Mr. Gates, I would be more than happy to be in your next commercial.  I won’t even charge the 10 million you paid Jerry.  I will do it for 1 million, or better yet, just pay off my house….what do ya say about that?  I’ll be patiently waiting for your prompt reply :)

Apple worth more than Google

I was on MacRumors.com and this was one of the head-lining articles. I thought it was great. Look at the quote at the bottom from Michael Dell….boy, was he way off! Go Apple!!!

Digital Daily notes that Apple’s market capitalization at $159.37 billion is now worth more than Google’s which is at $157.56 billion. Apple’s market cap first exceeded $100 billion in May of 2007. Apple was included into the S&P 100 index at that time. For interest, MacDailyNews compiled a list of the market values of other notable companies:

- Microsoft (MSFT) - $255,648,204,000
- IBM (IBM) - $169,964,678,000
- Apple (AAPL) - $157,012,662,240
- Google (GOOG) - $156,392,862,560
- Cisco (CSCO) - $142,125,692,160
- Intel (INTC) - $135,658,860,000
- Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) - $111,866,423,760
- Nokia (NOK) - $97,746,699,520
- Research In Motion (RIMM) - $71,143,935,000
- Disney (DIS) - $59,257,501,500
- Dell (DELL) - $50,483,256,060

The practical significance of this ranking of market cap is little, but does always revive a famous comment by Michael Dell in 1997 when asked about what he would do to fix the then money-losing Apple:

“What would I do? I’d shut [Apple] down and give the money back to the shareholders,” Michael Dell said before a crowd of several thousand IT executives.

Anti-Virus Protection Update

For those of you on a Microsoft Windows computer, GET A MAC!!!  No, really, if you are paying for an anti-virus program or not, AVG Anti-Virus, in my opinion, is one of the best (FREE) anti-virus programs out there.  If you already have it, great.  They have updated their program and there is a new, better version out.  I would recommend you download it and install it as soon as possible.  Here is the link to the download page.  Free AVG Anit-Virus

Better yet, seriously, get a Mac!!!

You want Vista? Which One?

My Vista instructor emailed this one to me the other day. I thought it was awesome….of course!!!!

My Back and Apple

So I am working on developing two computer courses. One is for the new Microsoft MCTS and MCITP. The other is for the new Apple Mac OS X 10.5, by the way I love Apple!!!! Just sitting and working on these courses makes my body hurt from sitting so much, and my eyes hurt from looking at my laptop for so long. On top of that I went to see the doctor the other day because my my upper back, neck, and shoulder have been hurting me really bad. Those of you that don’t know, I am a disabled vetran because of my lower back. So, I went to the doctor and he took some x-rays and the news was not too good. I have two discs that are going bad on me, I no longer have a natural curve in my neck, the spinal bones are not straight, and I have mild scoliosis. We are working on getting me all fixed up, but it is a pain…you get it…I’m in pain and it’s a pain (It is really late right now.) So the doctor and I are getting to know each other and he knows that I teach computer class and develops the courseware. He tells me that he bets that I use a laptop and I tell him yes, an Apple of course. He said that if he could write me a prescription to get a Mac Pro that he would, but he can’t of course. He said that I needed to get away from using my laptop as my everyday computer, because of the way it sits on my desk and the way I sit and all sorts of stuff…that does make a lot of since.

Getting a new Mac Pro, by the way I really love Apple, would be awesome, but man this is really bad timing. 1. I have the Africa Mission Trip that needs to get paid for (I still need help with this if you are interested….read the Mission Trip posts.) 2. We are trying to get our last credit card paid of. 3. I just cannot afford a new computer right now. So I am improvising. I have re-arranged things on my desk. I got a wireless keyboard and a monitor. Not exactly what the doctor ordered, but it will have to due for now. As we say in the Marine Corps, adapt and over come.

So I am now asking your guys for two things.
1. Pray for me and my back. Having to deal with my lower back is one thing….now it is the upper and lower. Wonder when the mid is going to give me fits?
2. I really need help with the Africa Mission Trip. If you feel like you could help me out, please read the Mission Trip category and it will explain things. So far we have had $590 in donations and that is from 4 families (Randy and Carol Barnes, David and Jana Cotton, Tom and Angie Cross, and Mike and Bridget Wildschuetz. Thank you guys….your are AWESOME!!!!

God Bless Your Day…..well Night!!!

iPhone update

Got to play with the iPhone over the weekend….IT ROCKS!!!! That pretty much sums it up. Everyone needs one of these!

iPhone

Well…I finally did it. I took the plunge and got an iPhone. A very good friend of mine works for AT&T Wireless and we were talking about my existing plan. By switching to the iPhone and getting on an iPhone plan, I am saving around $60 plus dollars a month on my cell phone bill. AMAZING!!!! Now, you might be thinking, aren’t those expensive…yes, but the phone I already have, AT&T 8525, cost as much as the 8Gb iPhone I bought.  I plan on selling the 8525 on eBay, they are going for around $200 plus dollars. So within a couple of months I will be saving money.

My biggest concern was being able to use this with my Exchange server for work. No big deal because it supports Exchange via IMAP. As far as my contacts and calendar, I use Entourage and in the preferences there is a sync setting so Entourage syncs my contacts with Address Book and my calendar with iCal. When I sync my iPhone with iTunes….I get all my stuff!!!! It is great! So I am off to play with the new phone and will post comments about it in a couple of days. So far…I love it!

I’m in Certification Magazine and Information Week Magazine!!!
